Looking for a Postiz alternative?
I used Postiz myself — from late July 2026 as the mailroom for my own brands, cancelled on 7 August. So what follows is not a hit piece. It is the comparison of someone who has seen both sides from the inside.

The real difference
It is not “more AI”
Almost every tool in this corner now advertises that an AI writes the posts. Kosmopost deliberately does not — and that is a decision, not a gap.
Because the bottleneck for most self-employed people is not that too little text gets written. The bottleneck is that nobody keeps going. The first two weeks work, then a client job lands, and three months later the last post is three months old. A tool that produces text even faster does not help with that. You end up with automation and nothing to feed it.
That is why Kosmopost counts projects, not channels: a project is one brand with one voice. And that is why there is the project brain — seven questions in plain sentences describing how your brand sounds, who it is for, and what must never be claimed.
The content is the part that needs you — that stays with you. Kosmopost takes over the admin.

“Free” is true.
It is just not the whole bill.
With Postiz the sentence holds: the source is open, you may run it on your own server. Here is what actually came up during my ten days — without any schadenfreude, since most of it is the same with every tool of this kind.
- 01 Your own app at Meta Publishing to Instagram and Facebook means your own connection, with business verification attached. In my case the whole route took weeks.
- 02 Access expires It has to be renewed regularly. Miss the moment and everything stops — and you do not notice, because nothing breaks. Nothing simply happens any more.
- 03 Every channel wants something else Instagram needs different fields than Facebook. Send both the same thing and it fails — silently, with no error visible on the surface.
- 04 The server does not run itself Updates, backups, storage for images. And someone who looks at it when it jams.
- 05 And then 4 August 2026 Meta cut all four of my channel connections — I had published too often in a row, and the mistake was mine. Two days of silence in the middle of the run-up. Since then Kosmopost keeps a minimum gap by itself and never blindly retries after a failure.

No sugar-coating
What Kosmopost
cannot do today
- It is young. Open since 15 September 2026 — before that, Kosmopost ran only for my own brands, every day since late July. Expect a tool with few features, not a grown-up suite.
- Two channels, not ten. Instagram and Facebook. TikTok and LinkedIn are planned, and planned is not finished.
- No analytics. If you need reach reports and competitor benchmarks, Metricool or Hootsuite will serve you better.
- No text and no image generator. That is deliberate — but if it is exactly what you are looking for, Kosmopost is the wrong tool.
- One person, not a corporation. Support is me. That has advantages and one obvious drawback.

Is Postiz really free?
Yes, if you host it yourself. The source code is publicly available (AGPL-3.0) and you may run it on your own server. What is free then is the software — not the server, not the access to Instagram and Facebook, and not the time that setting up and maintaining it takes. The hosted version from Postiz starts at 29 $ a month for five channels.
Why does Kosmopost bill per project and not per channel?
Because a channel is not a meaningful unit. A brand that lives on Instagram and Facebook is one brand, not two. Billing per channel punishes you for being visible in more places. With Kosmopost you pay €22.60 a month incl. VAT (€18.99 net) for one project and every channel of that project is included. To be fair about it: with exactly two channels, per-channel billing is often cheaper. The advantage turns as soon as a project has three or more channels.
Does Kosmopost write my posts?
No. There is nothing inside Kosmopost that invents text. The writing is done by you — or by the AI tool you already use, which you let read your project brain. Kosmopost keeps the rules, holds the plan and gets the posts out. In case of doubt a post is dropped rather than dressed up.
Can I bring my posts from Postiz to Kosmopost?
Your texts and images are yours and can be carried over. Whatever you already published through Postiz stays where it is on Instagram and Facebook — switching changes nothing about that. You connect the channels once more inside Kosmopost.
Where is my data stored?
Server and database sit in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. If a client asks you where their images are, the answer is short. With Postiz they sit with the provider — or, if you self-host, wherever you put your server.
